Lessons Learned From My Short Iron March Foray

Recently I had foolishly taken the malicious advice of a young man who recommended that I set up an account on the Iron March forum. Even more naïvely, I had registered under the username “Cecil Nilus.” Now, I never really intend to spend much time on forums (I prefer to write on paper), but this experience was insightful. Obviously I ended up being roasted, told I should be gassed, thrown in a bog, that I am a pervert, und so weiter, und so weiter… Basically just everything that I have already heard before.

On a side note, one of my Slavic “brothers” called me a moskal. This was new. I guess he forgot, while he was at it, to call me a katsap, a vatnik, and a half-Mongol.
Anyhow I was reluctant to post this here, but seeing as my name is now associated with this affair, I should address it. I have learned a few lessons that can be applied to people in circumstances such as mine:

 

1. Always question people’s motives. Clearly the young man only meant to embarrass me. When someone seeks out your association, ask if there is an ulterior motive.

2. Always do the necessary research. A very quick search online would have totally dissuaded me from making an account on that forum.

3. Never argue with people who are opposed to you a priori. It serves no purpose.

4. If you are an easy target for bashing, do not actively seek out associations. If you are good enough for a group, their members will notice you and seek you out. Do not try to enter groups unbidden and unwanted.
As for me, I will continue doing what I am doing, which is frankly not that much.
